Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse 8/10
i actually really loved this, despite really not liking Mile Morales too much, but I managed to enjoy him in this. Was caught off guard by the modern universe spiderman death, but I guess I should of seen it coming based upon the source material. Nick Cage as Spiderman Noir was amazing. I love how they mocked the origin stories in the movie, and even putting in the Spider-Man 3 dancing bit. Of course it wouldn't be a Spider-Man origin story without someone dying. |
A Walk Among the Tombstones 6.7/10
|
Always wanted to catch that. Any notes based on your scoring?
|
Game Night-7/10
Fun, kinda all over the place comedy crime thriller with a funny cast. Enjoyed it even though the back and forth of that shenanigans got a little murky towards end. But still a fun little throwaway. |
Game Night was a lot of fun.

I bet all of the people he has killed since 2007 are equal to or greater than the number he saved in Schindler's List.
He's mad that his glory as Oskar didn't result in Oscar glory and now he's undoing it all, one paint by numbers action movie at a time. Oddly enough Cuba Gooding Jr won an Oscar and went on to kill everybody he could on DVD so maybe winning an Oscar is a bad thing in the action world. |
Watching the GLOW documentary. Absolutely hilarious. I have never seen any of this footage before and I wish I had. I'd have loved this.
|
Oh Jesus that's one of the worst injuries I have ever seen. No need for the replays.
|
What a nice documentary. That had very few negative vibes in it and because of the clear and apparent nature of that negativity I think the director did well to avoid delving too deep into it in favour of concentrating on a fond remembrance of an almost forgotten niche in wrestling history.
|
Tag-6/10
The tag sequences and set ups were hilarious and easily the best part of the movie. The actors are all funny and get fun things to do. The part that kinda killed it for me was the end. Couple of heavy handed outs to move the movie to the ending cause a little tonal shift that's kinda weird, and also felt very hammy and unearned. It was still a fun watch however. |
Perfectos Desconocidos (Perfect Strangers)-8/10
Spanish language film about a group of friends who decide to play a game, putting their cell phones on the table and having any alert or phone call they receive read aloud to the group. Of course shenanigans shortly follow, including an extended gag where one of the characters gets mistakenly and falsely outed as being gay. The lines and dingers are really sharp, largely, I think, because they're in Spanish so there's a bit more flare in how they're delivered. It was a fun devil's advocate, what do you have to hide type of movie. My fave comedy in a while. |
Dragonball Super: Broly 9/10
|
Is the Broly movie a reboot/retelling or a sequel?
|
It's a reboot/retelling.
Broly as a character wasn't actually apart of the Main Dragonball Story, as are characters such as Cooler, Janemba, Bojack...etc This is basically moving Broly story into the Main DB Universe, with a retelling of his story. Frieza is handed the keys to King Cold's Empire due to him retiring, where Frieza meets the Saiyans for the first time, gives them Scouters...etc King Vegeta is proud of his son Vegeta as a baby and his power level, and the potential he has, until he is told of another Saiyan baby with a higher potential. King Vegeta is pissed at this and send Broly to be sent to a far off planet that is inhabitable and is dangerous and is more then likely going to kill the child. Paragus follows Broly to this planet to save his son. Frieza learns of Broly high potential and decides to blow up Planet Vegeta, Gine and Bardock send Goku off to earth... Only differences, Broly is not a monster who is triggered by a crying baby, and he hates Vegeta not Goku. |
The Upside - 4/10
Not bad. Kevin Hart was bearable. |

Brick is an incredible film. JGL at his very peak.
|
Brick was really great last time I watched it. Completely sucked in

Ides of March-9/10
Fuck me, do I love Ryan Gosling. Plays a second in command campaign manager under Philip Seymour Hoffman, as George Clooney seeks the democratic nomination. Paul Giamatti sees Gosling's talent and wants him aboard, telling him his guy's gonna lose so jump from the sinking ship now. All political hell breaks lose, as Gosling is both threatened to be blackmailed, fired, and his career destroyed while also randomly gaining leverage against Clooney that he initially tries to bury until tragedy hits and he's forced to apply his hand. The whole cast is obviously top notch, and Gosling is so damn magnetic with his silent charisma and presence. It's a pretty fun, interesting and, at the end, sleazy little political movie that shows what I can only imagine is the ugly side of politics the everyday man never sees. Loved it. |
The Great Battle 8/10
In the late seventh century, Korean soldiers defend their fortress from a massive invasion. KInd of like the Alamo meets Helms Deep and the 300 with subs of course. |
Glass - 5/10
It wasn't entirely bad. A solid start and a disappointing ending. |
Ah shit, I was worried about it looking a bit ropey.
|
Just popped Bridge To Terabithia into the DVD player. Tears everywhere now.
|
I'm watching the Matt Damon film, The Wall, and it is so ridiculous, but not in a good way. I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it through the whole film.
|
Plus, Matt Damon is speaking with a stupid accent.
|
I watched The Endless last night. It was excellent, I think Frank Drebin would enjoy it. It's not a film I would dare describe to anyone because it is so enjoyable trying to figure out what exactly is going on.
All I can say is it could be sci fi, horror, a mystery, a thriller or even a sort of buddy-Bildungsroman. It was as good as anything that has 300x the budget. |
I like The Endless as well @ SOB
Have you seen any of the people whose made it other work? Their movie SPRING is one of my favorite horror flicks in recent years. Like The Endless, I won't say anything else about it bc it's not what you're expecting at all. |
GLASS - 7/10
The first half is a mess/not cohesive The second half is good and has lots of surprises. I was a fan of how things ended. Thought Sarah Paulson nearly stole the show, but I am also a big Sarah Paulson mark. |
Tag 7/10
Pretty much what Damien Rey said |
Secret Avengers 6/10
Needed more Squirrel Girl |
If it weren't for Seanny Un, Dos, Tres, Un pasito pa'delante Maria, I would've never watched Tag. That being said, I don't remember a lick of it.

I think you told me to watch SPRING months ago, I like Lou Pucci a lot so I have tried to find it but I may have to buy it online. |
Glass 7/10
On another note, I watched about 45 mins of "The Wall" last night before switching it off; it was so naff I couldn't take it any longer. |
Mr Vengeance
6/10 Stu Bennett isn't bad. Doubt we will see him in anything mainstream but I think if he wanted to he could make a decent career the B movie circuit |
Sherlock Holmes 7/10
Not your traditional Sherlock Holmes, but I enjoyed it. |
Vice-6/10
Bale and the rest of the cast are great, but the story and characterization are really scattered and unfocused. There's tons of tonal shifts, from satire to political drama to dark comedy. Was kinda disappointing given the trailer and I didn't learn much more about Cheney. |
Venom - 7/10
This movie was all over the place, but in a good kind of way. |
Soylent Green 8/10
Set in 2022 in an over populated New York City, Soylent Green gives us a possible future that may not be so distant as it once seemed. |
The Mummy (2017) - 3/10
Holy shit this was bad. No wonder Universal scrapped plans for the shared monster movie universe. Only redeeming quality was that Sofia Boutella was pretty cool as the mummy. |
Polar- 8/10
Netflix original action movie starring Mads Mikkelsen. Based on a comic of the same name. Think John Wick, but a bit more over the top. |
I chose Apostle over that last night and a lot of shite it was.
|
I'll get a review up for The Invitation, that was...unexpected. Too good to ruin with pretty much any description so may be a spoiler tagged review.
|
Invitation was good, yeah.
Started watching The Mist and it sucks so far. Like 4 episodes in and no monsters yet. Just a bunch of people with personal problems that aren’t that interesting. |
Darabont already made it the best it could've been. It's not one of the better King books and it's one of the best adaptations. I don't see how you get a whole series out of it unless it's a very loose adaptation.

Hold the Dark 6.5/10
I wasn't quite sure what was going on by the end. |
Same. Cool atmosphere though.

Polar - 3/4
A high concept action film with slow burning interplay, more Wick (the soundtrack and the dog shout-out were very Wick-esque)than Taken yet with some hugely detracting and distracting miscasting and misfiring on the acting front. Mads Mikkelsen is perfect for a role like this, he's a physical specimen with charisma in abundance and an excellent wry sense of humour. The good bits are as good as Wick, the bad bits look like they belong in another film entirely. There's a gang of assassins that suck all humour from the screen and Matt Lucas cast as the nemesis is questionable in a way that makes me wonder if maybe the director had been watching Tilda Swinton in Snowpiercer a bit too much. Whatever caused it, the boss and the gang were dreadful and took too much screen time. All other aspects were either predictable yet brilliantly realised and styled or completely unpredictable, cool as shit and techno as hell. There was this one bit with lasers... I won't ruin it for you. |
Polar 6.5/10
I thought the casting of Matt Lucas kind of matched the ridiculousness of the film. |
What about the lasers though?

Dragon Ball Super: Broly-6.5/10
Wanted to give it a 7 because the animation during the action, and those sequences were absolutely stellar. The story and motives behind Broly this time around were also much better. However, Paragus seemed to have more of a motive than Broly, and he was just kinda there. In the original, Paragus actually had a personal vendetta and plotted his revenge. Whereas in this one, he's just randomly found, and used as a pawn in what seemingly amounted to a sparring match for Frieza to watch. It didn't feel anywhere near as personal this time around even tho it's supposed to be canon. Also the ending was really anti climactic. And honestly, I found it corny and very unsatisfying. Sure it leaves the door open but it didn't resolve anything. So yes I liked it, but I didn't like it more than the original. I liked it about the same. |
Velvet Buzzsaw... half way through and I'm starting to think that Nightcrawler was great by mistake.
Rene Russo is the wrong choice for this film, Zawe Ashton was exposed as out of her depth in broad British comedies years ago and it is appallingly apparent how little she offers in a big budget Netflix film when you see her acting alongside everyone here. Toni Collette should have been given the Russo role, Rene Russo wasn't cool in the 90's when she actually had a name so this "Rene-sance" being forced down our throats makes no sense commercially nor in terms of drawing an audience. It's asking a lot of Jake G to pull this movie out of its own arse. I may well stop watching this. It is very poor. |
FREE SOLO - 8.5/10
Absolutely terrifying -- But also incredibly inspiring. Great documentary. Highly recommended! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/urRVZ4SW7WU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Those people are pants compared to that nutty French guy that climbs the outside of skyscrapers barehanded.
|
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows 7.7/10
I enjoyed it more than the first film. |
Now watching “Velvet Buzzsaw”. Going to ignore Seanny Hitler’s POV since he doesn’t even know what Sanford is.
|
SERENITY - 3/10
(Film w/ Matthew McConaughey & Anne Hathaway). It's a giant mess. It started off as this interesting, sexy, noir thriller and then halfway thru the film it reveals it's twist, which comes out of nowhere, and makes no fucking sense -- but the film then continues on with it. The big, dumb twist is: SPOILER: show |
They've been so secretive about the plot, I am considering watching it tomorrow.
|
Maybe one day it will end being a cult classic b/c of how bad it is.
It could happen. |
Fair enough. I will "try" to watch it this week.

Velvet Buzzsaw was dreadful, worse than Neon Demon actually. At least Neon Demon has Abbey Lee and Elle Fanning at their most outstandingly good looking. |
Deadpool II was hilarious. 9/10.

Vice 6.7/10
Christian Bale and Steve Carrell were great, but it did not really grab me; The Big Short was much better. |

The Invitation - 4/4
When a film as heavy, as agitating and uneasy as this seems to fly by like a train car made of toothpicks you are assured that it will be rent asunder by it's own lack of integrity before forty minutes are through. Then you spend 90 minutes waiting for a collapse that never occurs because someone somewhere found the only super powered train car made of toothpicks that is as aerodynamic as it is impossible. Yes it rattles and rolls and it scared the shit out of me the first time I rode it but I really can't recommend it enough. At the end of it you know you can survive something the world ain't ready for. I know this isn't a proper review, it's a bit of a cop out and I'm close to being sorry for that...but I refuse to be the exposition for a movie that fucking tight. Just watch it. Logan Marshal Green and John Carrol Lynch are outstanding, Michiel Huisman and Tammy Blanchard are unfalteringly brilliant. Every single aspect of this film was refined to brilliance and it shows in a way that my fears will always recall. |
Pissing myself laughing at Father Of The Year...

Just watched another Sandler/Spade comedy "The Change-Up" on Netflix.
I liked it. I laughed a lot. I just do not understand why I can be so enamoured by comedy and yet critics trash the genre on a daily basis. A childish, smutty comedy is one thing but Sandler has never made one of those. They all have heart in them somewhere and there is never any filth. I love comedy and The Change Up does the job just fine. I think there is a critical vendetta against Happy Madison. |

The Lego movie: the second part-8/10
The same high pace, frantic, gag driven model returns and tho it's not quite as good as the original, it's a fun, funny follow-up. The kiddo loved it as well. |
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part - 7/10
|
The Prodigy - 6/10
Acting was decent and it had a few moments but overall it's a no from me. |
The Upside - 6/10. I thought it was pretty decent and Hart and Cranston did well, I found some of it too cliche and a bit preachy at times.
|
Suicide Squad - 2.5 out of 5
Most of the film felt pretty boring. |
Cold Pursuit - 7/10
Happy Death Day - 6/10 |
Happy Death Day 2U 9/10 biggest complaint I had is the post credits scene doesn't set up a 3rd movie like was rumored

Happy Death Movie 2 U - 7/10
I didn't see the post credit scene. |
Cold Persuit - 4/10. Had it's funny moments, but I found a lot of the acting pretty bad and it was a little too cheesy for my liking.
