Aeon: The Last Vampyre on Earth 6/10
Very low budget but if you can make it through the first 15 minutes this might be your thing.
--Fleeing a cataclysm of unimaginable origin, Catherine in a nightmare while holed up in a crumbling warehouse where a crypto classified "human predator," has been accidentally set free. Catherine soon realizes that she is in fact not alone - coming face to face with the last Vampyre who is starving from being imprisoned in a weakened state for decades. Catherine begins to fear that she may have stumbled into her own tomb, but reaches within herself to engage with the creature learning more about human history than the world outside would dare to face, a truth so alarming and illusion shattering that it could only be told by the last Vampyre on Earth.--

Went and saw Kingsman tonight. Holy hell I enjoyed that movie way more than I anticipated. It was utterly fantastic. Without giving away too many spoilers, the "church scene" was so fucking awesome. 10/10

The Condor 03-02-2015 10:10 AM

Gone With the Wind: 7.9/10

2nd half was subpar in comparison with the first, but I now get the appeal that Clark Gable had 75 years ago.

Focus - 8/10

It was kind of what I expected. Well-made, decent twists and turns and crap, nothing too wild. Will Smith was good in it

10/10.

The most adorable buddy robot movie ever. a bit like Johnny No.5/Robocop storyline with a bit of Avatar-ish finale. Almost felt like Die Antwoord dominated the screentime other than Chappie himself turning into a gangsta raging robot. Lots of LOL moments. Die Antwoord's music almost occupied half of the screentime during the funny moments of Chappie being gangsta violent with DA (Cookie Thumper, Baby's On Fire, Fatty Boom Boom) and Enter the Ninja the most epic song played during the finale moments of Chappie.

Poor Yolandi.. I cried my eyes out. :( Gotta love how Die Antwoord in the movie even have their alias names mentioned plus flaunting their music merchandises on their gangsta troops from orange jackets to Yolandi's pet rats and trademark shorts and sexy shirt on their concerts.

For those who hate Die Antwoord, I suggest you watch this movie. Sure, their music sucks to your personal tastes, but hey it's a funny yet entertaining next level Zef movie, mothafukkas. Don't blame me if you get one of their songs stuck in your head cos the 2nd half of the movie has their music hits blasting during the funny moments of Chappie turning into a ZEF GANGSTA BLING MOTHERFUKKA.. Enjoy.

Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance): 9/10

Only lost 1 point because I wouldn't see myself watching this movie "all the time" or anything. But it was pretty great. The way it was meant to look like one long, single take, was awesome. The director said something like "There are no cuts in life" when explaining it, which puts into perspective
SPOILER: show
the first actual cut when he shoots himself on stage, meaning everything after that was most likely imagined.

The Hunger Games - Mockingjay - Part 1: 5/10.

Felt exactly like what it is.... an incomplete movie.... Not really a strong enough story it seems to me to be two movies.... Could probably have just had one movie and it would have turned out better.... wouldn't make the studios as much $ though, so it wouldn't happen....

Why isn't she in any of the ads?

road doggy dogg 04-01-2015 08:13 AM

She was in the trailers for it in theaters. But she honestly plays a pretty minimal role in the movie in the grand scheme of things

Sadly, the franchise went out on a whimper. Wasn't as good as 6. Nice little tribute for Paul Walker at the end. However, Jason Statham spoke soft, fought hard, and stole the movie.

As he should. Now we just need him and The Rock to team up

Actually saw this when it was out but downloaded it anyway and watched it again to refresh my memory. Except I watched it at 3X the speed and it was amazing to make up their lines for them. I might watch the rest of these movies at 3X too, we'll see.

Watched it in 2X speed which I believe is the perfect speed and the only way to get through these movies. Tokyo Drift up next.

Watched at 2X speed again. Not great.

Apparently it is chronologically the last of the The Fast and the Furious franchise films. hmmm

I have to take a break, watching these at 2X speed make all of them blend in with each other. Didn't think they would kill off Ana Lucia like that especially since I saw that she's in the next one and the upcoming films.

Speaking of the next one, I think I might watch it at normal speed. But that will be tomorrow.

Very good. Very crazy heist scene. I bet a lot of innocent civilians died walking on the sidewalk that day. Here's to them. Lots of The Rock's sweat drenched this entire film also.

Bonus scene was Eva Mendes revealing to The Rock that Ana Lucia is a ghost. Next one should be good then as long as they include ghost cars.

Movie (and entire franchise) is so ridiculous though. But good ridiculous.

So ridiculous. But still gets a pass

See, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are both in their respective cars. And then they go for for "one last ride" until Paul Walker's car takes that offramp exit onto the great highway in the sky. Meaning he's dead.

mitch_h 04-15-2015 06:32 PM

I watched 5 and 6 recently because I was intrigued by the fact that the series has supposedly gotten better and I like The Rock. Here are my spoiler filled thoughts and observations.

Fast Five was good, perfect mix of self aware ridiculousness and legitimate film making. Was Vin Diesel getting broken out of the prison bus part of this movie or was it to get people up to speed with the franchise?

Scene where they are in the Favela jumping from rooftop to rooftop was legitimately good. Jordanna Brewster jumps 20 feet off a roof, crashes through sheet metal and then tells Paul Walker she is pregnant.

"Aww hell nah" - Ludacris' first line of dialogue.

None of the lead characters are really interesting or charismatic but they are sincere and seem like nice people so you get invested in them. The Rock is awesome though, he is mean to people and crashes through windows... no way Vin Diesel could take him.

Final action sequence is great, I'm glad they completely abandoned their Ocean 11 approach and just ripped the bank vault out of the wall with their cars.

Interesting streak of anarchism running through this film, contemporary figures and institutions of power are demolished - the rich, the police, a bank.

Boring epilogue.

8/10

Fast and Furious 6 - The Rock has still got it.

The scene with the supercar that flips regular cars is great. Good little inside reference with the little Asian boy on the bus, I wonder how many little inside jokes I'm missing.

I like that every British guy in this movie gets their ass kicked or they are humiliated.

I totally forgot about Jon Kano fellater Michelle Rodriguez, ugh, too much backstory and Vin Diesel. I don't like her amnesia subplot, I guess I don't approve of soap opera storytelling mixing with big blockbuster aesthetics.

Ludacris is accused of changing/selling out since acquiring millions of dollars, apparently he use to be a modern day Robin Hood, he challenges this by rigging an ATM machine to shoot out loads of cash that is quickly collected by hot women with breast implants.

Tank scene was okay.

MMA chick from those animated gif memes is a good addition, I don't know if her heel turn makes sense but whatever.

Tyrese Gibson has gone from comic relief to completely fucking retarded, he is of no benefit to the rest of the team and almost shoots our main characters with a grappling hook.

Main bad guy looked familiar, I thought I might know him from some cool foreign film, I was disappointed to discover that I recognized him from the Hobbit films.

Airplane scene pretty good, not as good as the bank vault scene from Fast Five though. Sweet doomsday device by the Rock and Vin. I was hoping it would be the hot Israeli girl who emerges from the fire.

Haha, movie ends with our heroes holding hands saying grace.

6/10

RoXer 04-15-2015 06:41 PM

The Jason Staham reveal is pretty fucking cool

mitch_h 04-15-2015 06:52 PM

I didn't even know about that so I just watched it now off of the youtube, cool. Debating if I should see #7 at the theater or wait for home video...
