I want them to go up obviously but the future is hard to call really. We need to go up for financial reasons but to be honest 4th bottom would be a real achievement in the Premiership what with having potentially little transfer funds. Mick has done a fantastic job getting a group of players together without spending much money an making them a decent team in a very poor division where no team has any consistency. It would be hard to see where we would get the points from to stay up, outside the obvious 6 points we'd get against Newcastle.

Wengerland 04-10-2005 03:57 PM

fuck, Real Madrid 4-2 Barcelona.

Top game though, still 6 points clear but really bad defending, Valdes was pretty poor too when called upon :(

Rob 04-10-2005 04:01 PM

I don't know how people can say Owen is shit.

Wengerland 04-10-2005 04:06 PM

Yeah, people go really overboard on the criticism of Owen, though it's quite annoying how he can be awesome for Madrid and then miss bagloads in England games.

PSIcological 04-10-2005 04:46 PM

could have done with leicester holding on against Brighton :-\

oh well, beating burnley 1-0 was all we needed and now we're climbing up the division. I reckon the mighty gills will be safe if we cand beat crewe next week

The Madrid-Barca game was pretty good to watch too. it'll be interesting to see how the season finishes now.

packt up 04-10-2005 06:16 PM

The Spurs Newcastle game was one of the worst games I've seen this season (and not just cos we lost and we played like 11 bags of shit)

The Real Barca game was some of the most sublime attacking footy that I've ever seen.

So it balanced out.

Dazz 04-10-2005 09:17 PM

Samuel Eto'o's goal was pretty good, just from the amount of effort and pace he used.

Wengerland 04-11-2005 07:00 AM

Eto'o's possibly out for the season with that knee injury now, bollocks :'(

-edit- It's just been said that it's not as bad as first feared and he'll only be out for 10 days

He is also England's third top all time goalscorer. People are quick to forget that.

We're gonna lose anyway, we might as well have an excuse

That said, we play better WITHOUT him, guys like Biscan raise their games when Gerrard isn't around, and Xabi will be back as well.

PSIcological 04-11-2005 01:46 PM

the thing with Owen is, he is a really good player but then he can suffer from dry spells and everyone starts to doubt him. Then he'll go and score loads again. I guess my point is he is a good player but he needs more games at Madrid and more goal scoring consistency

The Mackem 04-11-2005 06:02 PM

To be honest (and look at me standing up for Man U fans  ) but its the same for everyone. A big reason why so many people hate Man U in the first place is because they are/were so succesful.

1-1 now in Bayern shades of offside but I'm happy cos it makes it more exciting.

And Bayern have to be the worst diving team I've ever seen - all over the place they are going down.

Cactus Sid 04-12-2005 05:16 PM

Pretty disgraceful scenes in the Inter/Milan game

Dida just got hit by a flare, and the goalmouth is full of them

Doesn't bode well for tomorrow :(

LK 04-12-2005 05:26 PM

Seems that about 50 odd flares were thrown on the pitch and engulfed Dida's goal in smoke and he was hit.

Cactus Sid 04-12-2005 05:28 PM

Chelsea are through

Game at San Siro's been suspended for now

Flares are magnificent in adding colour to games but it's disgraceful when they are thrown onto the field. Disgraceful by the Inter fans...the sad thing is those sorts of incidents happen regularly in Greece and other areas around Europe especially, with flares, bottles, seats etc being piffed on field and hitting or just missing players, officials etc. :nono:

Which, of course, they won't.

Also in that bottom picture yianni posted, you can see 2 flares about to be launched [/obvious]

yianni 04-13-2005 06:36 AM

Gooner that arseblog.com thing is a load of shit regarding UEFA being harsher on English clubs than the rest. What about when Roma got the punishment of having 3 home matches behind closed doors after that incident with the coin hitting Frisk in the head on Matchday 1 of this season's Champions League?

If an English club's supporters chuck flares onto the pitch and hit a player like Inter's fans did they'd get the same sanctions. English clubs were banned from European competitions cos there were incidents in stadiums where cunts died as a result of English hooligans, like Heysel 1985. On that note, I hear there'll be a beef up in security for Juventus-Liverpool tomorrow cos some Juve supporters may feel like "revenge" for that terrible day 20 years ago.

Back to the flares, I thought they were banned fullstop in the Champions League?

toxic rooster 04-13-2005 06:51 AM

Heysel wasn't entirely Liverpool fans' fault, though

To be fair the idiots who stuck up a chicken wire "fence" should have had a bit more sense. In fact the game should probably have never been played there in the first place. Fact is, English hooliganism has died down compared to a few decades ago, the Italians appears to be on the rise and it might take a few deaths for something to be done about it.

And flares should be banned full stop from games, I don't understand what purpose they serve.

Liverpool fans have never said that at the end of the day it wasn't the fault of a number of our fans who caused the deaths of 39 Juventus fans. It was our fault, and Liverpool FC have never shyed away from taking the blame.

Despite this, there were a number of contributing factors which resulted in the incidents, things which were not the fault of Liverpool and would possibly have saved the lives of those people.

The stadium was a complete shithole, it was falling apart. The fans were not segregated properly and the security officer did absolutely nothing to prevent a confrontation between the fans from happening. A lot of people forget that the Juventus fans were throwing things at the Liverpool fans, but of course, the end result is what always happens with hooligans..... its the proper fans who end up getting hurt.

Liverpool fans were responsible for what happened, but I am telling you right now, that if fans from 2 countries were put in an unsegregated area at the European Cup final, then another Heysel disaster would be very very possible

True now you are holding your hands up but to many Juventus fans its all a case of too little too late. I admit I've only watched football for 10 years or so but I can't remember anything from Liverpool about remembering Heysel (sp?) before they were drawn against each other this year. Since then its been like PR city (and rightfully so) but before that I don't remember much about the whole thing from Liverpool.

Cactus Sid 04-13-2005 04:34 PM

Liverpool fans remember Heysel, they just don't make it that public because we are ashamed of what happened, this has been the perfect chance to publicly say that the Liverpool fans of 2005 are sorry for what happened. I'm not gonna have a go at the Juventus fans who turned their backs on everything, like the media did, because I can understand how, to some people, its completely unforgivable what happened.

So, 0-0 at half time. Zambrotta is destroying us down their left and Nunez has looked truly inept. Xabi ain't gonna last 90 minutes, and Baros is not trying as hard as he could.

Played well in defence, but I can't see it lasting 90 minutes.

Oh and all the Baros haters, look at the work effort he puts in. His finishing has been poor but he gives a 110 % each match. He runs his heart out and that's what matters.
Good to see Cisse and Alonso back.
