Spain coach Luis Aragones has dug himself deeper into a hole over his remark about Thierry Henry by now referring to Jose Antonio Reyes as “a gypsy”.

Aragones faces disciplinary action from the Spanish FA, who have launched an investigation into the coach telling Reyes that he was better than “that black ****” Henry.

Now, in an interview with Madrid newspaper El Mundo, Aragones tried to defend himself but succeeded only in making things worse.

Aragones said: “Reyes is ethnically a gypsy, I have got a lot of gypsy and black friends, I consider myself a citizen of the world, I don’t care about their skin colour.

“All I did was to motivate the gypsy by telling him he was better than the black.

“I feel I have been the victim of a lynching. All I did was try to motivate Reyes comparing him with Henry and making him see that he was better.

“I didn’t use the term ‘black’ with any racist meaning.

“I’m not going to forget what’s happened. A section of the press in this country

Spain] has lynched me and I will not forget that my family have had a very bad time as a consequence of this.”

Arsenal are understood to be unhappy at Aragones’ latest remark but will not be taking any formal action. <hr>

Aragones is fucking brilliant

Burnley away... I don't think I can bare putting Radio Leicester on this afternoon. :'(

Mike the Metal Ed 01-01-2005 12:00 AM

Also, I want to see a Leicester match. Dunno if I should waste 20 quid going to the QPR match though.

Mike Riley :nono:

toxic rooster 01-01-2005 10:01 AM

Alonso broke his ankle in that Lampard tackle.

Wengerland 01-01-2005 10:51 AM

Mike Riley is a fucking dick, 1 clear penalty and one maybe debatable one but even that wasn't a free kick to Chelsea, which he gave :|

Chelsea won 1-0 btw, draw would've been fair and it's a shame Alonso had to go off as Liverpool were playing well and Nunez is nowhere near as good a player.

packt up 01-01-2005 11:11 AM

Riley is like seriously the worst ref. absolute shocker.

And seriously I laughed hard when I read that Aragones thing - he just doesn't give up does he.

gypsy lol

QPR are shite so you might get some points there.

Funny enough, the Sunday league team I play for are called QPR and wear blue and white hoops. We are top of our league though :D

Ogen 01-01-2005 12:56 PM

3 points for the first time in 7 games feels good to get a win again go on Nobby Solano

Wengerland 01-01-2005 01:14 PM

Abandoned after 20 minutes, saves us from another defeat i suppose.

<font face=verdana size=3 color="#ff6600">Christ, Norwich are boring to watch. We were shit, the ref was shit, it was a pretty shitty match all in all.

The ref made us take our penalty 3 times and then our dickhead players celebrated with the Norwich fans (something ive constantly said annoys me) They sat behind the ball all game and consiquently were very boring to watch. We couldn't string 2 passes together. BLAH one of those days :(</font>

The Mackem 01-01-2005 04:48 PM

Got beat 3-2 away at Preston, after being 3-0 down.

Anybody can get promoted from this league.

Mr. Monday Morning 01-01-2005 09:03 PM

Hope for us yet

Mike the Metal Ed 01-01-2005 09:07 PM

Gazza :(

Rob 01-01-2005 10:34 PM

Refs were absolutely horrible today.

Dazz 01-02-2005 08:00 AM

Nice one Chelsea, we played bad, we should have given away a penalty, we didn't have many chances, but we got three points on a ground where Arsenal got none, woooo.

LK 01-02-2005 09:57 AM

Well done United last night. Was a little worried with the other two winning and us playing Boro at the Riverside since they have some quality players but United came away with a comfortable 2-0 score.

toxic rooster 01-02-2005 10:25 AM

ManYoo have that habit of dropping points to Boro too

LK 01-02-2005 06:15 PM

Yeah I mean McClaren has a decent record against United as well but United were easily the better team. Another immense display from Giggs.

So when's he negotiating the new contract?

Wengerland 01-03-2005 07:59 AM

Already been offered one, United offered him a 1 year extension but Giggs wants at least 2, so he rejected. If he keeps up his current form then i can see him getting the 2 years though.

yianni 01-03-2005 08:24 AM

Isn't that something to do with some thing United have where they only offer 1 year contracts to players over 30? Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere else in this thread, it's just I heard about that the other day.

Ogen 01-03-2005 01:09 PM

He won't get two years chairman has come out and said that.

Wengerland 01-03-2005 01:10 PM

WHOOOOO finally got another home win, just about held on.

De Vries and Maybury on their way too

That's their story now but Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane and Teddy Sheringham all signed longer than 1 year deals when they hit 30. I'd give him 2 year deal instantly. I'd give him 3 if he wanted it.

El Capitano Gatisto 01-03-2005 03:30 PM

He'd just go back to being crap.

Also, I think that policy is a recent thing.

Ogen 01-03-2005 05:11 PM

Savage has handed in a transfer request at Brum wants to move closer to his family and Villa missed out on Beattie which was to be expected what I'm fuming about is that O Leary has said theres no plan B it was him or noone we need a feckking striker this month. I'd love to see us tempt Spurs with 4 million for Keane think him and Angel would work well togethere.

Wengerland 01-03-2005 07:23 PM

I know it would be another gamble but i reckon Villa should take a look at Dean Ashton.

Rob Ban Fan 01-03-2005 07:28 PM

<font face=verdana size=3 color="#ff6600">Southampton have signed Callum Davenport on loan til the end of the season.

Good signing </font>

Ogen 01-03-2005 10:13 PM

We really can't afford another gamble though we need a proven Premiership striker. I like ashton from what I'veseen he'll go far but we can't have yet another dodgy striker sign for us

Ogen 01-03-2005 10:14 PM

Redknapps teaming back up with daddy at the Saints aswell RBF

Dazz 01-03-2005 10:19 PM

Fucking Brom, if Horsefield could square a ball and pick out Earnshaw I would have won only 8 quid, but it's still better then winning nothing.

El Capitano Gatisto 01-03-2005 10:21 PM

If Shay Given wasn't such a chief, you mean.

Earnshaw looks like a real, proper dwarf.

Dazz 01-03-2005 10:24 PM

I am unaware of what a cheif is, round here it's a rude boy word for 'mate'.

Earnshaw's face reminds me of something but I'm not sure what it is, and Horsefield was never going to beat given from the angle he was at, I don't know what he was thinking, Earnshaw would have buried it, probably.

On other news, if Shay Given was such a 'chief' then how come we have scored nine passed him in the past two seasons at Stamford Bridge

El Capitano Gatisto 01-03-2005 10:42 PM

It would have been 20 without Given. Newcastle are shit. Given should be at Barcelona or somewhere great like that.

Dazz 01-03-2005 10:49 PM

He has gotta go in the transfer window or the end of the season, he is being robbed of Champions League football.

El Capitano Gatisto 01-03-2005 11:05 PM

He won't. Irish players are too loyal. Roy Keane said it, and he was spot on: a few players in the Irish team could have been playing club football for big teams if they'd shown more ambition and a will to win.
