As for the long term story thing... Those don't exist.
Also Ambrose still being fresh is a reason why I would have put him in instead of Ziggler. No doubt it was cool beyond belief to see Dolph in that position. However he has been jerked around for so long that it is quickly going to amount to nothing. Ambrose hasn't been jerked around too much yet, so it would have continued his shooting momentum.

It gives them the option for a long term story. I'm not saying they'll follow through with it. We all know WWE's ability to royally fuck up a good thing. But it gives them the option which is all we can ask for for starters.
And through all the being jerked around, Ziggler never got a moment like that. Ambrose will have his chance. He'll get his moments. He's expected to be a future star. Ziggler was a TRUE underdog. That's what made it so awesome. Ambrose in that situation would practically be expected to overcome the odds because he's been pushed to being on that path to stardom from the beginning. Ziggler was the guy who could never quite reach his true potential and was in the position to fail just like he'd always done before. It was perfect. The booking may not take advantage of it, but it probably wouldn't have taken advantage of Ambrose being the sole survivor either. The booking is generally scatterbrained and awful. But for that one night, I think they made the most dramatic move they could make.
