It's fucking gutless. That trade was an absolute heist. Gomez has missed all of one game since June 23. Even if something did happen with his hip, he's only signed through 2016. He wouldn't break the bank and fuck them over for years and years if he had gotten hurt like Tulo would have. What Gomez could have potentially provided far exceeds what anyone else in the current Mets lineup is capable of.

And I like Wheeler a lot...but jesus christ. If there was ever a great time to cash in on him, it's now. They still would have had Harvey, deGrom, Thor, Matz, Niese, Fulmer, Montero, Verrett, Ynoa, and the rest. They have SO much pitching. And given how salaries have been increasing there's not a chance in hell they'll be able to keep all of the established guys in that group once they all reach arbitration.

Unless Gomez had an inoperable tumor on the base of his spine, this was a fucking horrible decision that sends the completely wrong message to the entire fanbase.
