The entire company going dark for months would never work but I like the idea of an “unofficial” off-season mainly for top guys. Injury angles and such to keep guys off TV for a while, keep them fresh and stretch out storylines instead of hotshotting everything. WWE would never do it because they need all their top guys working as much as possible because “stars” = money. But long term, you could actually build stars by not overexposing them.
