TBF, I've never heard that Dunn's father actually caused the car fire, though I suppose it's possible. I guess Vince felt that, no matter who, if anyone, was at fault for the car fire, that by potentially risking his life or serious injury, Vince owed Dunn's father, which is understandable.
I don't think it's reasonable to keep Kevin Dunn on in the role he has currently with how creatively bad the camera work is even if Kevin's good at his job. That's probably occurred because Kevin Dunn is essentially one of Vince's "yes men" who will do what Vince prefers without pushing back even if he does disagree with Vince's creative vision, and/or Dunn might know some of Vince's secrets too. If Vince just wanted to keep Kevin on staff because of Dunn's father, he could've easily kept Kevin on at the same salary doing something else.
