Charlie Dempsey and Harlem Lewis had a great match in NOAH. Charlie lets more and more emotion creep into his matches as his body movements get more and more broad as fatigue sets in. He did a great job drawing people in.
Harlem Lewis has got real star potential. He’s got a big guy presence even though he’s not that big for a wrestler. He was able to do all the chain-wrestling spots. He wore frustration on his face well. Dempsey was going after his arm so when he got frustrated he took some shots at Dempsey’s and he put him in the corner facing out to hit some clotheslines from behind. I like little psychologically heel things like that. Definitely worth a watch if you can track it down. |

SmackDown was pretty good. I’ve been digging Aleister Black’s work. He’s put all the tools together. Everything seems to work with him right now.
Damian Priest’s connection with the crowd is jeopardized by how his matches are planned out. He seems to always end up in these predicaments where fans want him to do something, but because he’s playing this stoic badass who has the next spot planned, there isn’t room to do anything organic. He should just destroy some fools for a few weeks and when fans chant “One more time!” after he Chokeslams them, he should actually do it. Then they’ll accept him as one of their guys. SPOILER: show |

For Cena's last match is it looking to be Bron or Gunther?

I’ve been enjoying Trick Williams lately. He’s become a polished act and one of the best promos in wrestling. I’d be ok with Cena vs. Tricky William. It should just come down to who Cena wants.

I didn’t like SmackDown this past week. Ilja doing the “it’s nothing personal” spot was cool, but the Nathan Frazer match didn’t resonate with me. Smackers just feels dry.
Raw was good. Whenever Rey and Dom interact it’s magic. Rusev is still great. I’m looking forward to Shinsuke/Sheamus. Got the feeling we might get Los Americanos vs. Lucha Bros too. LOVE JD McDonagh’s work. He’s a little dynamo. Adds some great little details to things. Love that CM Punk shouts him out. JD McDonagh vs. Chad Gable pls. NXT is always a good show, but this week’s didn’t really pop for me. One of the softer entries. I’m glad Ethan Page & Chelsea Green are a thing. |

With a name like Smackers, it has to be bad. (IYKYK)

Smackdown was much better this week. Aleister Black is a fantastic professional wrestler. My complaint with him back in the day was that he did too many flips and they didn’t seem to fit him. Now he works a style where he’s studying his opponents and getting in front of them a lot. His timing on shit is phenomenal. It’s great to see talent get back from AEW frustrated and really applying themselves to the details of what often goes missed.
Rusev has been great too. He’s always so committed to everything he does. Ilja Dragunov always amazes me in the ring. Everything he does seems so organic. I’m not a big fan of him wrestling the SmackDown mid-carders, but I guess they are building up things for him to do. I like the NXT crossovers. With NXT still having a Peacock presence, it makes sense. It will help NXT and keep SmackDown fresh. |
