It just seems odd that of all the MM they could have attached him to, they chose Legends. A series whose fanbase they insist on pissing off.
Given that he's fictional, Capcom attaching a background to a character makes them that character. Even if it's not a MM game or canon. In SFxT, Volnutt is a middleaged, overweight loser in lycra. That, along with cancelling MML3 and blaming the fans, gives the impression that they think lesser of the Legends fanbase than they think of the Classic or X fanbase. You can't tell me no one would be pissed if they canceled, for example, X9, blamed the X fanbase and then made X a fat loser in lycra in MvC4. They didn't need to attach Volnutts background or anyones background to BBAMM. They could fix this entire thing by adding the word "imposter" somewhere in his bio. |

My guess is Ono and Inafune legit thought BBA-MM was a cool and funny idea. The Legends backstory may have been either a cheap placeholder because they didn't want to craft an actual story for who was always a joke icon in the MM franchise. Personally, if Inafune himself is cool with it that's end of story. No corporate trolling or whatever. They thought it was cool, they attached known canon to him out of laziness, that's that. |
